Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: A Knockout Fight, but Netflix Takes the Hit

The Fight That Had Everyone Talking

Friday night’s boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul grabbed everyone’s attention. Not just because Jake Paul, the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer, managed to defeat 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in eight rounds. But because many viewers had a frustrating time watching the live stream on Netflix.

Streaming Glitches Take Center Stage

The fight was supposed to be a big moment for Netflix, but instead, people were complaining about constant freezing and buffering during the live stream. Social media exploded with complaints, and the hashtag #NetflixCrash started trending.

Downdetector, a site that tracks tech issues, received over a million reports of Netflix problems across 50 countries. The U.S. alone had 530,000 complaints, with issues peaking around 11 p.m. Eastern.

Jake Paul’s Big Claim

After the fight, Jake Paul called it the “biggest event” and bragged about crashing the site. “Over 120 million people on Netflix,” he said. While Netflix hasn’t confirmed those numbers, they did share that 60 million households tuned in live, with viewership hitting 65 million at its highest point.

Netflix’s History With Live Streaming

This isn’t the first time Netflix has had trouble with live events. Last year, the “Love is Blind” Season 4 reunion was delayed by over an hour due to technical issues. Since then, Netflix has streamed live golf and tennis matches, talk shows, and even awards ceremonies without much trouble. But Friday’s fight was their biggest live-streaming challenge yet, and the glitches showed they still have work to do.

What’s Next for Netflix?

Netflix doesn’t have much time to fix these problems. They’re scheduled to stream two NFL games on Christmas Day and WWE Raw in January. With the stakes this high, they’ll need to ensure their live streaming is ready for millions of viewers—or risk another #NetflixCrash moment.
